Red Shoes: The Colour We’re Loving for Spring

There’s something about red that can completely change an outfit.

This spring, red is one of our favourite ways to add colour without having to rethink your whole wardrobe. A red shoe works beautifully with the pieces many of us already live in — black, denim, white, navy and neutrals — but instantly makes the outfit feel a little more interesting.

And you don’t have to go all-out. From red ballet flats and bright sneakers to softer coral tones, there are plenty of ways to wear the colour.  Even a splash of red lipstick can do the trick!

Red ballet flats

The ballet flat is well and truly back, and red might just be our favourite version.

A simple pair of red leather flats works with cropped black pants, jeans, dresses and skirts. If your wardrobe is predominantly neutral, they’re also an easy way to introduce colour without feeling overdone.

Look for modern shapes such as square toes and low-cut uppers for a fresher take on the classic ballet flat.

Red sneakers

For something more casual, try a red sneaker.

Wear them exactly as you would your favourite white sneakers — with jeans, relaxed pants, dresses or skirts. The difference is that gorgeous hit of colour.

Red and white is particularly fresh for spring, while a gum sole gives the sneaker a slightly retro feel.

Red + pink

If you love colour, don’t be afraid to mix it.

Red and pink shoes are playful, unexpected and surprisingly easy to wear. Let the shoes do the talking and keep the rest of the outfit simple with black, denim or a neutral.

Not quite ready for red? Try coral

Coral is a beautiful alternative if bright red feels a little strong.

It gives you that warm pop of colour while being softer and easier to blend with neutral wardrobes. Think coral flats with white, cream, tan, denim or black.

How to wear red shoes

The easiest approach is not to try too hard to match them.

You don’t need a red top, red handbag and red accessories. In fact, we prefer red shoes as the one unexpected colour in an otherwise simple outfit.

Black pants + red flats.

Jeans + red sneakers.

A white dress + red shoes.

Simple.
